Golden Glove Infield: Doug, Jason & Mark

Posted by Mark Smith – 2 Comments

As was mentioned in the previous article, Golden Gloves will not be given to not just one player but multiple players who had great years. All three of these players had great seasons in the infield and would be a force if they all played on the same team.
Jason had another great year protecting third base.  He recorded 29 ground oCopy of Jason's catch.jpguts which was tops in the league.  He used his "little old glove" for many of those outs which makes his total even that much more impressive.  This is the Jason's 6th year to win a Gold Glove.
Mark also had a solid year in the infield and with the glove.  He was able to snag 26 grounders this season which paced him just behind Jason for the league lead.
But the headline of this award is: Doug wins his first ever Gold Glove!  Yes that's right Doug wins a Golden Glove.  At first glance at the stats you might see that Doug only had 6 ground outs.  But let's take a little closer look at the statsCopy of Doug.jpg and see what they say.  Jason ended up with 29 ground outs and he went up to bat 208 times.  With those numbers in mind let's go back to Doug - he had 6 outs and he had 52 at bats.  With some simple math if you figure Doug went up to bat 208 times and then factor in his out ratio - he would have ended up with somewhere in the neighborhood of 24 ground outs.  When you look at those numbers you can realize that he definitely deserves this award.  Doug's biggest problem his whole career has been his inability to get enough games played.  Just the other day I was talking to him and he said he would love to see what he could do for an entire season - so would we Doug...so would we.

Total Votes: Mark - 28, Jason - 24,
Doug - 16, Craig - 8

On Deck: Defensive Player of the Year

Winning a Gold Glove really means a lot to me. Thanks to everyone who voted for me and for the final decision to allow more than one person to win a Gold Glove. I will always have a great memory of the 2008 season. You all truly "Made it Great in 2008" for me. Congratulations to all of this years Gold Glove Winners. I thihk that we all deserve it. Hey Doug,

Congratulations on winning your first gold glove. My brother and I know that it means a lot to you. You are a good person and you know that I would give my life to make yours better, and vise versa. I also know that you would give your life for mine. I am sorry to you, Mr. Mark Smith and the rest of your league for my previous remarks. You know that I am facing an illness that will kill me and I know that you are in a similar situation. I just wish that everyone in your family understood how much pain you and I are both experiencing. Doug, you are like a brother to me and I wish you all the best in the battle you are facing. You know that I am not going to survive this situation I am in. If you play in 2009, please play one game for me in my memory. My family will truly appreciate it. I hope that you are able to get back on that field, but I know that you are battling an illness that is not curable. As I have seen you write many times, I know that 2009 will be more fine for you and everyone in the league." Thanks for your support over the last few years Doug, it has meant a lot to me and my family. I hope to see you someday on the other side.

Sincerely,

Miner's Fan 666
